Living In Kensington, London
What Makes It Unique?
Kensington is in West London, with Holland Park and Notting Hill to the north, Knightsbridge and Hyde Park to the east, South Kensington and Earl’s Court to the south and Kensington Olympia to the west.
Some of the best flats and houses in all of London are located in Kensington and the mixture of beautiful surroundings, brilliant shops and quick access to Hyde Park make it a very expensive area.
Kensington is a very affluent and sought-after area that is very popular with a range of home buyers, and in particular, French home buyers (much like South Kensington!) because of the number of French bakeries and cafes here, as well as the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle de Londres school in South Kensington.
In terms of shopping, Kensington is home to the largest Whole Foods in England, as well as well brand such as Zara, American Apparel, Russell & Bromley and Kurt Geiger, amongst many, many more on Kensington High Street.
Restaurants here are very good, with some of the most popular being: Maggie Jones’s, The Windsor Castle, Grato, The Ivy Kensington Brasserie, Kensington Place and Kitchen W8.
Schooling in and around Kensington is very good, with the most popular schools generally being: Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle de Londres (as mentioned before!), Pembridge Hall School, Tabernacle School, St Philip’s School, Queen’s Gate School, Thomas Kensington London Day School, St Mary Abbots Primary School and Holland Park School.
Transport to and from Kensington is very good, with High Street Kensington Station being on the Circle and District lines, Notting Hill Gate Station being on the Circle, District and Central lines and Gloucester Road Station being o the Circle, District and Piccadilly Lines. Kensington Olympia Station (which is a primarily an overground station, although you can get a District Line train to Kensington Olympia from Earl’s Court on the weekends) which is a rail and tube station is on the London Overground line which takes you all across London and further afield to stations such as Watford Junction, Cheshunt, Chingford, Barking, Stratford and West Croydon.
