The Home Cinema & Media Room
It is a goal or a dream for a number of 3-bed home buyers to have a dedicated home cinema or media room in their dream 3-bed home…
What is the difference between a home cinema and a media room?
A home cinema is just that - a dedicated room in which to watch movies.
They usually have no windows and are very dark (by design!) so that the experience is as close to a proper cinema as is possible.
A media room is a normal room in which there are typically windows, where people watch movies, sports, play video games, etc.
Interestingly, a home cinema can often have seating - such as rows of seats - much like a cinema does…
Media rooms usually have sofa or comfortable chairs that people use…
For the home cinema technology alone you will be looking at £10,000+ without any fixtures/ furnishings and/ or changes to the room…
“A media room is a normal room in which there are typically windows, where people watch movies, sports, play video games, etc.”
In terms of the size of the room, you will need to obviously leave room for the screen/ projector and having enough distance from the screen to the seating area - this can often be larger than you initially thought or planned for…
You will also need to spend a few thousands pounds to give your cinema room or media room the best sound and make the acoustic performance as good as possible.
What other aspects do you need to think about when planning your room…?
As an example, you may consider:
Sky box,
Gaming consoles,
DVD/ Blu-Ray players,
Netflix/ Amazon Prime,
Etc…
Where will you store all of these devices/ boxes in your room?
Where will the seating go?
Will we have a popcorn machine? If so, where?
Will we have a bar in the cinema room? If so, where?
I would absolutely speak to a specialist who can help you plan all of these aspects and more…!
If you had to choose, would you go for a home cinema or a media room?
