Where Can I Live If I Work In Central London?
For some people, living in London is the dream…
For others, they would rather live further afield and commute…
London is certainly the not the only area that you could potentially live in if you have to commute to work in Centre London.
Yes, London is incredible…
Yes, London is genuinely one of the most sought-after cities in the world…
Yes, at the time of writing this article, as well as throughout a large chunk of history, London is and has been the ‘financial capital’ of the WORLD.
Add on top of that the fantastic education, beautiful green spaces and a wonderful environment in which to live and it makes sense why London is so unbelievably popular the world over…
Why then, would ANYONE want to live outside of London if they work in central London?
It’s very simple, actually…
1. Property Prices
In general, the further out from the centre of London that you go, the cheaper property prices are.
Yes, I know that that is actually a massive generalisation - really, it is - when you consider parts of The Home Counties (The counties that surround London) such as The Wentworth Estate (Virginia Water), Sunningdale, Beaconsfield and St George’s Hill.
Although, due to Brexit (sorry for using that dreaded ‘B’ word!) prices in places such as St George’s Hill have dropped significantly…
2. More For Your Money
The Chiltern Line, as an example, which connects parts of Buckinghamshire to Marylebone, is incredibly popular with commuters and because of that it does carry a premium.
Comparing Beaconsfield (arguably the most sought-after area along The Chiltern Line) to Marylebone it is easy to see why for SOME buyers, it makes more sense to live in Beaconsfield than in Marylebone…
a) Marylebone - £2,000,000 - 2/3 bed flat of circa 1,110 sq ft - 1,250 sq ft in prime Marylebone with a lease and access to a private garden square..
b) Beaconsfield - £2,000,000 - 5 bed detached house within the ‘golden triangle’ of Beaconsfield with a 0.8 acre plot.
“Fantastic education, beautiful green spaces and a wonderful environment in which to live.”
3. Lifestyle
Not everyone wants to live in or near the hustle and bustle of London.
Others may want to live in a far more rural area and have access to local village schools, quaint high streets and can still have a 50 minute commute to work.
It comes down to whether people prefer to be in the centre of London and in the ‘thick of it’ on their days off/ weekends or if they’d rather have beautiful, relaxing country walks.
This is purely down to personal opinion!
Have you ever thought about moving out of London, or have you made the jump and moved out of London?
If so, was it for any of the reasons above?
